SUSTAINABILITY

isn’t a part of our process, it’s everything we do.

Our company, and our products, were created as a solution to a local environmental problem

To remove nuisance mud from our local reservoir, and capture methane escaping from abandoned coal mines. In every sustainable tile is a story about this land and our effort to protect it. Particular Tile strives to be an example to others that manufacturing can be adjusted to do more than just create less harm—it can be the cause that helps reverse the issue.

CLAY SEDIMENT

100% of our clay material is sourced from a local reservoir that is losing water storage capacity due to sedimentation that has been building over decades. The mud that we remove from the reservoir is high-quality clay that we use to make all of our products. The more tile we make, the more clay we remove from the reservoir.

METHANE CAPTURE

We are in the process of planning our own methane capture facility with the goal of powering our entire factory with waste methane gas. Near the reservoir where we get our clay, abandoned coal mines leak large amounts of methane. These leaks cause as much annual climate pollution as more than 100,000 passenger vehicles. We can capture and use this energy to not only achieve the kiln temperatures needed to transform the raw clay into ceramics, but also to power our full facility.

CLIMATE POSITIVE

While we’re planning and pursuing the infrastructure needed for our own capture and use of methane to power our facility and kilns, we use standard gas and electric kilns to fire our clay tile. Methane is a dangerous greenhouse gas. We take seriously the need and responsibility to capture, utilize, or destroy as much of it as possible, and as quickly as we can.
